What Happens in an OT Session?
An occupational therapy session for autism or ADHD typically involves:
Assessment phase (first 2–3 sessions): Standardized tests of sensory processing (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests — SIPT), fine motor assessment, ADL (Activities of Daily Living) evaluation, parent interview.
Intervention sessions (30–60 minutes): Structured sensory activities targeting the child's specific profile. May include: swing activities, trampoline, crash cushion for proprioceptive input, tactile bins (rice, sand), fine motor tasks, daily life skill practice (dressing, eating).
Parent training: Good OT includes parent coaching — teaching you what to do at home. This is where the benefit actually comes from.

Evaluating Quality
Signs of good OT: provides written sensory profile after assessment, gives you specific home program, involves you in sessions, reassesses goals every 3 months, can explain rationale for each activity.
